ABOUT

The Women’s and Senior Women’s 2022 PGA National Club Championship will be headed to Sea Island, Georgia in February 2023. This invite-only tournament field will be made up of the top amateur women’s and senior women’s golfers from around the country who have won their club championship during the 2022 calendar year.

Receiving an invitation to the PGA Club Championship is quite an honor since the field is only made up of an exclusive group of club champions. The championship brings together a wide variety of golfers from nearly all 50 states. Public or private, small or large, all club champions from facilities with a PGA Professional are eligible.

The championship is a 3-day, 54 hole stroke play competition with Women’s, Senior Women’s (50+), and Champions Women’s (60+) divisions each with separate playing distances & prizing. Competition rounds will take place across Seaside Course, Plantation Course and Retreat Course.

Any Women’s or Senior Women’s club champion at her club qualifies for the National Club Championship and may sign-up for any of the 3 divisions:

Women’s Division – Open division

Senior Women’s Division 50+ years of age

Champion Women’s Division 60+ years of age

Invitation, recognition, & registration

PGA Professionals submit their amateur club champions and invitations are sent out to players via email. If you are a club champ, please ask your PGA Professional for the invitation or contact Matt Weinberger at Mweinberger@pgahq.com. All club champions will need to be verified by the PGA Professional.

The World Amatuer Golf Rankings will recognize the Women’s PGA National Championship – WAGR coverage includes more than 10,000 players from 102 countries, and more than 4,000 ranking tournaments played in 104 countries.

The field will be limited to club champions only and due to the nature of the invite process, acceptances will be taken first come first served until the field is full.  If you are interested in adding your name to the Official Waitlist.

Palm Springs Championship Results from 2021 Club Champions

FROM THE PLAYERS

“The National Club Championship is an outstanding event!  I have been lucky enough to attend both the inaugural 2020 event at Pinehurst as well as the 2021 event in Palm Springs.  The experience gets better each year and the PGA staff truly think of every single detail.  The venues they choose are spectacular.  You can expect beautiful challenging courses, a great welcome party, and quality favors to remember the experience.  This annual event has made me even more motivated to win the club championship each year as I would be very disappointed to miss out on the invitation to attend!”

Colleen Meyers

“We’ve had the privilege to compete in the first two club championship events in both the men’s and women’s divisions and they are top notch! The team that puts on the event are very thoughtful in selecting a great venue. This has turned into an event we hope to be able to qualify for every year.”

Andrew Flaskerud & Katie Kirk

“I can not tell you how much I enjoyed playing in the PGA National Club Championship!  It was the trip of a lifetime for me.  I have talked about it so much at my home club in Michigan that our club has decided include paid entry fee into this years event as part of winning our Club Championship. The professionalism and friendliness of the PGA staff made it a special experience I will never forget. I also absolutely loved the golf courses and accommodations in Palm Desert.  I would go there again tomorrow. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!”

The courses

Sea Island | Public Relations & Event Marketing KemperLesnik

Seaside is an ocean-side links course that combines its beautiful natural setting with a golf course that is both challenging and fun. The beautifully manicured fairways and greens are bordered by sweeping dunes mixed with native grasses, wildflowers, and bunkers. And the wind creates a different golf experience daily. Sea Island’s most dramatic layout, Seaside is routinely ranked among the top 100 courses in the United States. Along with the Plantation Course, it is the home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic, a FedEx cup event hosted by Sea Island touring professional Davis Love III.

Inspired by the traditional profile of Walter Travis’ 1928 original nine-hole course, the new Plantation Course has reopened after a complete redesign by Davis and Mark Love of Love Golf Design. It’s truly been a labor of love – a vision and an on-going conversation between brothers who have transformed the course they grew up playing more times than they can count. You’ll now find the Principal’s Nose on #10 green and a few of Travis’ chocolate drops here and there, along with phenomenal views of the ocean. It is a course you’ll want to play again and again.

Sea Island Touring Professional Davis Love III and his brother Mark redesigned Retreat in 2001. Carefully blending players’ preferences (including their own) from the earlier design, as well as devoting a lot of close personal attention, the brothers created an original design that while dramatic is very playable and interesting. The Love brothers added 300 yards of length to give Retreat an open feeling with a lower profile. The course is defined by pine trees and bunkers but allows players to swing freely for the target. Davis Love III changed the way the course plays so that everyone might enjoy the game as much as he does.

No, this event features the amateur club champions at golf courses with a PGA Professional on staff.  PGA Professionals are encouraged to promote the PGA Club Championship invitation to their members to help increase participation in their course’s club championship divisions.

Players qualify by default for the division they won at their course (e.g. if a 62 year old wins their Senior Club Championship they qualify for the Senior Division at the PGA National Club Championship).  Club Champions may sign up for any of the divisions at the PGA National Club Championship. Players must indicate their division preference by selecting the division on the sign-up page.  Switches between divisions can only be done if space permits and must be approved by Matt Weinberger mweinberger@pgahq.com

The cost is $850 for the entry fee which includes 3 rounds of championship golf (cart is included or players may walk or bring their own caddies).  The entry fee also includes premium player welcome gifts, as well as a daily food card that can be used at restaurants on-site at the courses or resort during each competition round.

Players need to sign up and pay for the Player Entry Fee to “reserve their spot.”  Since registrations are completed on a rolling basis spots cannot be held.

The PGA Professional from the participant’s facility is encouraged to attend to caddie or cheer on their club champion. As a token of our appreciation, that PGA Professional is able to sign-up for the same practice rounds as their club champion at no cost (subject to availability). Contact Matt Weinberger at mweinberger@pgahq.com for more information or to sign-up.
